Some Links of London designs communicate through symbols. Others use words. This unusual sterling silver disc pendant manages to do both, turning a simple circular form into a two-sided message of LOVE and YOU.

A surviving example hallmarked for 2010 gives us a useful record of the design in production during the original Links of London years. At approximately 25mm in diameter, it is larger than many of the house’s small message charms, allowing the typography itself to become the principal decorative element.

One Disc, Two Messages

The pendant is constructed as a flat sterling silver disc with a different composition on each face.

One side reads LOVE. Turn the pendant over and the reverse reads YOU.

The clever part is the circular opening at the centre. Measuring approximately 5mm in diameter, it is not simply a decorative piercing: it becomes part of the typography, functioning visually as the letter O on both sides of the pendant.

The same physical feature therefore contributes to two separate readings depending on which side is visible.

The Hole Is Part of the Design

The central opening is important because it changes how the pendant should be understood.

This is not simply a silver disc with words applied to its surfaces. The empty space itself is incorporated into the message. Removing the opening would remove part of the lettering.

That use of negative space gives an otherwise straightforward circular pendant a more graphic quality. Metal and absence of metal are given equal importance, with the opening acting simultaneously as construction, decoration and letterform.

Not a Spinner Pendant

Round Links of London message pendants can sometimes be confused with the various rotating or spinner designs produced during the same broad period.

This pendant is different.

There is no rotating centre, pivot or moving element. The 5mm opening is fixed within the solid disc and the pendant itself does not spin as part of its construction.

The double-sided effect is achieved simply by turning the complete pendant over, revealing the second face and the second word.

That distinction matters when identifying surviving examples, particularly as several quite different Links of London circular message designs now appear together in secondary-market searches.

A 25mm Sterling Silver Disc

The surviving example documented here measures approximately 25mm in diameter × 1mm thick.

Those proportions give it an interesting balance. The 25mm diameter creates enough surface area for the LOVE and YOU compositions to read clearly, while the approximately 1mm thickness keeps the pendant comparatively slim.

Rather than relying on volume or gemstone decoration, its visual presence comes from the polished silver surface, the graphic lettering and the circular opening at its centre.

The Familiar Oval Bail

The pendant is fitted with the familiar Links of London oval bail, measuring approximately 9mm × 7mm.

This generously proportioned attachment will accept a suitable necklace or bracelet up to approximately 5mm wide, allowing the design to move between different styles of wear.

The use of this familiar fitting also connects the pendant to the wider Links of London system of interchangeable charms and pendants, in which individual pieces could often move between necklaces and bracelets rather than being permanently tied to a single chain.

A Hallmarked 2010 Example

The surviving pendant documented here carries the marks LL and 925 together with a date letter for 2010.

This gives us firm evidence for the production date of this individual example.

As always when documenting vintage Links of London jewellery, the hallmark date should not automatically be interpreted as the year in which the design was first introduced. It establishes that this particular pendant was hallmarked in 2010; the design itself may have existed before or after that date.

Words as Jewellery

The LOVE YOU pendant belongs to a broader strand of Links of London design in which language became part of the object rather than merely an inscription added afterwards.

Surviving pieces include charms and pendants built around affection, personal messages, initials and short phrases. In this example, however, the wording is particularly integrated into the physical construction.

The message is not hidden inside a locket or confined to a small engraved line. It defines the entire face of the pendant.

There is also a pleasing economy to the idea: one disc, one central opening and two related words. Nothing needs to move and nothing needs to be added for the second message to appear.

Our present evidence allows us to document the physical design with confidence:

• sterling silver construction;
• approximately 25mm diameter;
• approximately 1mm thickness;
• approximately 5mm fixed central opening;
• LOVE composition on one face;
• YOU composition on the reverse;
• approximately 9mm × 7mm oval bail;
• LL and 925 hallmarks;
• and a date letter for 2010 on the surviving example.

We have not yet recovered a sufficiently authoritative original catalogue or retailer record establishing the design’s exact historic product name, original SKU, retail price or collection attribution.

For that reason, we currently document it descriptively as the Links of London LOVE YOU Double-Sided Disc Pendant. Should stronger original material emerge, the archive record can be expanded accordingly.

A Surviving Example

The example presently documented measures approximately 25mm × 1mm and retains the characteristic central 5mm opening and oval Links of London bail.

It has been professionally cleaned and polished. Light marks from previous wear remain visible on the silver surfaces, consistent with an original vintage piece rather than a newly manufactured object.

The dated hallmark provides a useful physical record of the design in 2010, while its unusual two-sided typography adds another piece to the developing picture of how Links of London used words, symbols and playful construction across its jewellery.
