Among the many figurative charms produced during the original Links of London years, the small seated cat is one of those designs whose character comes almost entirely from shape, proportion and movement.
Modelled in three dimensions rather than as a flat silhouette, the charm depicts a cat sitting upright with pointed ears, a defined face and a long tail curling around the lower body. It is compact, but surprisingly sculptural when viewed from different angles.
We currently use Sitting Cat Charm as a descriptive name for the design. An original Links of London catalogue name or product reference has not yet been recovered, so we do not treat that wording as a confirmed historic product title.

A Three-Dimensional Animal Charm
The Sitting Cat belongs to the broad group of animal and character charms that formed an important part of the Links of London charm vocabulary.
Rather than reducing the subject to a simple outline, the design uses a fully modelled body. The narrow upright chest, pointed ears and curling tail create a recognisable feline shape while allowing the charm to retain the polished, uncluttered appearance associated with many Links of London silver designs.
The tail is particularly important to the composition. It travels around the seated body and gives the lower part of the charm a wider, more stable profile, while the narrow neck and head emphasise the cat’s upright posture.

Dimensions of a Surviving Example
A surviving sterling silver example documented by Links London measures approximately:
- 18mm high
- 7mm wide
- 9mm thick
Three-dimensional Sitting Cat Charm in polished sterling silver
These dimensions demonstrate how much modelling was incorporated into a charm measuring less than two centimetres high.
The charm is fitted with the familiar Links of London oval charm and pendant bail, measuring approximately 9mm × 7mm. This allows it to be worn from a compatible necklace or bracelet up to approximately 5mm wide.

A 2009 Hallmarked Example
The example documented here is hallmarked LL, 925 and carries a date letter for 2009.
That hallmark provides useful evidence for the design being in production by 2009, but it dates this particular surviving charm rather than establishing the year in which the design was first introduced.
This distinction is important when documenting vintage Links of London jewellery. Many successful designs remained available for several years, and a dated hallmark records the manufacture or hallmarking of an individual piece rather than necessarily identifying the launch date of the design itself.

Designed for Bracelets and Necklaces
The oval bail gives the Sitting Cat a degree of versatility. It can be worn directly from a suitable necklace or bracelet, while a separate sterling silver split ring allows it to be attached to the expandable Sweetie bracelet system.
This ability to move charms between necklaces and bracelets helped make the Links of London charm format particularly adaptable. A small design such as the Sitting Cat could function as an individual pendant, form part of a larger charm collection, or become one element within a personalised Sweetie bracelet.

Part of a Wider World of Animal Charms
Animals appeared repeatedly throughout the Links of London charm catalogue, ranging from highly recognisable domestic animals to wildlife, birds and more playful character designs.
The Sitting Cat should not, however, be confused with other cat designs produced during the original Links of London years. Different feline charms existed with different poses, constructions and decorative details, and visual similarity alone is not enough to assign an historic product name or collection.
For this reason, we continue to document each surviving design individually and only apply historic collection names or original product references where supporting evidence has been recovered.

Documenting the Surviving Design
The 2009 example documented here has been professionally cleaned and polished and survives in great vintage condition.
Its measurements, hallmark and construction provide a useful reference for identifying further examples of the same design. As additional catalogues, retailer records or original product documentation emerge, the record can be expanded with confirmed information such as its original product reference, retail name, selling price or production period.
