The Return of a Classic Proportion

When Links of London introduced its first watch collection in the late 2000s, the design language reflected the brand’s jewellery heritage — curved forms, tactile details and a preference for human-scale proportions.

The Classic Round model, reference 6010 1258, is a perfect example. Its 31 mm case diameter mirrors the dimensions favoured by high-horology maisons throughout the mid-twentieth century: watches such as the Omega Seamaster CK2577 (34 mm), the Rolex Bubbleback (31 mm) and the Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 96 (31 mm).
In an era before the oversized sports watch, these were considered ideal men’s dress proportions — balanced, elegant and discreet.

Today, those same dimensions make the watch equally appealing to gentlemen who appreciate traditional sizing and to ladies who prefer a tailored, contemporary wrist presence. It represents the timeless 1940s–60s ideal of proportion, revived with the softness and charm that defined Links of London design.

Design & Craftsmanship

The 6010 1258 features a polished gold-plated stainless-steel case with graceful bow-style lugs — a design inspired by the loops found on antique pocket-watch bows. The domed mineral crystal gives a gentle optical depth to the white enamel-effect dial, where black Roman numerals and leaf-shaped hands mark the hours in quiet precision. A rounded crown tipped with a black cabochon completes the profile, echoing details more often seen on Cartier and Breguet timepieces than on British fashion-born brands.

Movement & Function

Inside the case beats a Miyota 2015 quartz movement, valued for its reliability and slim profile. It has been professionally serviced and fitted with a new Renata 377 battery. The case-back carries the full engraving — “Water Resistant 30 m / Quartz / Stainless Steel / Links London / 6010 1258 / 1002 2413” — confirming authenticity and model lineage within the first generation of Links of London watches.

A Study in Restraint

Viewed through the lens of watch history, the Classic Round’s restrained aesthetic places it firmly within the lineage of understated dress watches from the 1940s to 1960s. Where contemporary brands pursued scale, Links of London returned to proportion, producing a piece that sits closer in spirit to a Cartier Tank Louis Large (33 mm × 25 mm) or an Omega De Ville Trésor 31 mm than to the diver-style watches dominating the same decade.
The result is a design that feels timeless rather than nostalgic.

Condition & Preservation

The example documented here remains in excellent vintage condition, appearing unused and retaining its original protective case-back sticker. The strap — cream crocodile-pattern genuine leather — shows light natural ageing typical of vintage stock. The movement has been fully serviced, seals lubricated, and crystal inspected.
As with all watches in The Vault, originality has been prioritised over replacement: components are preserved where functional, maintaining historical integrity while ensuring reliable performance.

Vintage Condition and Important Information

This is an original vintage Links of London timepiece, professionally serviced but intentionally kept as close to factory condition as possible.
While seals and crystal have been inspected and lubricated, they have not been replaced, so water resistance cannot be guaranteed.
Light age-related marks are visible and form part of the watch’s authentic character.
Future servicing can include full resealing and pressure testing if water resistance is required.
All watches offered in The Vault are tested for function and accuracy at the time of sale but are vintage collector’s items and not supplied with a manufacturer warranty.

Legacy

The Classic Round Watch stands as a bridge between Links of London’s jewellery heritage and its early ambitions in horology.
Its restrained 31 mm profile recalls an age when proportion, not presence, defined elegance — aligning it with the timeless school of watch design that produced the Calatrava, the Tank Louis and the Seamaster De Ville.
In the context of British design history, it represents the moment when Links of London moved beyond silver and charms to create objects of enduring craftsmanship.
