Q & A

Vintage Links of London Noughts & Crosses Amethyst Chain Cufflinks

An original pair of Links of London Noughts & Crosses Cufflinks in sterling silver, designed around the familiar opposing shapes of a cross and circular nought.

Each cufflink combines one cross-shaped end with one round end, connected by a traditional sterling silver chain. Both sides are set centrally with polished purple cabochon amethysts, adding colour to an otherwise bright silver design.

The combination turns the familiar game of noughts and crosses into a compact pair of double-ended gentleman’s cufflinks.

Noughts & Crosses Design

The cross ends measure approximately 14mm × 14mm, while the circular nought ends measure approximately 13mm in diameter.

Both forms are approximately 5mm thick, giving them a substantial sculptural profile despite their relatively compact dimensions.

At the centre of each end is an approximately 4mm round purple amethyst cabochon. The smooth domed gemstones contrast with the highly polished sterling silver surrounding them.

Traditional Chain Construction

The opposing ends are connected by approximately 17mm sterling silver chains.

This traditional double-ended construction gives the cufflinks flexibility through the shirt cuff while allowing both the nought and cross elements to remain visible when worn.

Dimensions

  • Cross ends: Approximately 14mm × 14mm
  • Cross thickness: Approximately 5mm
  • Nought ends: Approximately 13mm diameter
  • Nought thickness: Approximately 5mm
  • Amethyst cabochons: Approximately 4mm diameter
  • Connecting chains: Approximately 17mm long

Hallmarks

The cufflinks are hallmarked:

  • LL
  • 925
  • Date letter for 1999

The dated hallmark records this particular surviving pair and should not be interpreted as establishing the first year in which the design was available.

Condition

The cufflinks have been professionally cleaned and polished and are now bright and clean.

They were previously well worn and remain in average vintage condition. Light marks are still present across the silver surfaces, together with fine scratches to the backs of the cufflink ends.

These traces of use remain visible on close inspection and are consistent with the age and previous wear of the pair.
