A symbolic milestone design from the original Links of London years, this Vintage Links of London Graduation Scroll Charm is crafted in sterling silver and modelled as a rolled diploma or certificate tied around the centre.
The original design featured red enamel detailing to the ribbon. On this example, that enamel had become damaged, so it has been professionally removed completely. The result is an unusual all-silver version with a clean polished finish throughout, preserving the original sculpted scroll and bow while giving the charm a more restrained monochrome appearance.
Known by the original Links of London product reference 5030.1422, this example is hallmarked LL, 925 with a date letter for 2011.
The charm represents a rolled diploma or certificate, one of the most recognisable symbols of graduation and academic achievement.
Its narrow tubular form is finished with curled ends and a sculpted central bow, giving the small piece a clear sense of the rolled-paper original despite its compact scale.
Surviving examples of this design show red enamel applied to the ribbon detail around the centre of the scroll.
On this particular charm, that enamel had become damaged. Rather than leave compromised colour in place, it was professionally removed completely as part of the restoration process.
This leaves a fully polished sterling silver version of the design, with the original sculpted ribbon and bow preserved but without the coloured enamel.
Because the original red enamel has been removed, this example has a noticeably different appearance from standard surviving Graduation Scroll Charms.
The polished monochrome finish places greater emphasis on the sculptural form of the scroll itself and creates a cleaner, more understated piece. It offers a rare opportunity to acquire this design in an all-sterling-silver presentation rather than its usual red-enamel form.
The charm is fitted with the standard Links of London 9mm × 7mm oval bail and can be worn on a suitable necklace or bracelet up to 5mm wide.
A split ring is supplied for attachment to a Links of London Sweetie bracelet.
The sterling silver has been professionally cleaned and polished and presents with a bright finish.
The original red enamel was damaged and has been professionally removed entirely. This modification is disclosed clearly and forms part of the individual history and appearance of this particular vintage example.
