Vintage Links of London Sterling Silver Pencil Sharpener Pendant Charm

An inventive miniature object from the original Links of London archive, this Vintage Links of London Sterling Silver Pencil Sharpener Pendant Charm is modelled in the form of a traditional pencil sharpener.

The design reproduces the familiar narrowed body, ribbed sides, raised blade and screw detail, together with a circular 4mm opening where a pencil would ordinarily be inserted. Despite the realism of the design, this piece is crafted in sterling silver and is purely decorative rather than a functioning sharpener.

At 16mm high with a substantial three-dimensional body, this piece was primarily suited to necklace wear as a small pendant. The standard Links of London oval bail also allows it to be worn on a suitable bracelet, where its scale and weight make it better suited as a larger hero charm than as a conventional miniature charm.

Hallmarked for 2008, this example has been professionally cleaned and polished. It retains a bright finish but shows numerous marks and dents from previous wear, consistent with a piece that has clearly been well used. It is therefore offered in acceptable vintage condition.

A Pencil Sharpener in Sterling Silver

The pendant is designed to look like a real pencil sharpener rather than simply suggesting the idea through a flat silhouette.

Its raised blade, screw detail, side ribbing and circular pencil aperture give the piece a convincing miniature-object quality. The sculptural construction means the design remains recognisable from different angles, while the polished sterling silver transforms the familiar utilitarian form into jewellery.

Decorative Rather Than Functional

Although the circular opening and blade-like detail closely reproduce the appearance of a working sharpener, the pendant is crafted in sterling silver and was made as jewellery.

It should therefore be understood purely as a miniature representation of a pencil sharpener rather than as a functional stationery tool.

A Pendant by Scale and Weight

The piece has considerably more substance than many of the smaller Links of London charms. Its three-dimensional construction, 16mm height and tapered body give it enough presence to work naturally from a necklace.

The standard Links of London oval bail does, however, preserve the wider charm system. Attached to a Sweetie bracelet using the supplied split ring, it can work as an oversized focal or hero charm.

Condition

The pendant has been professionally cleaned and polished and retains a bright silver finish.

It nevertheless shows numerous marks and dents from previous wear. These remain clearly visible after polishing and indicate that the piece has been well used over its lifetime. It is therefore offered in acceptable vintage condition rather than being described as a pristine or lightly worn example.
